Air fryers fans warned about one meat you should ‘never’ cook

Air fryer fans have been warned against cooking a popular dinner food in their gadget, as it could pose an issue.

The machine offers many home cooks the opportunity to whip up their favourite meals conveniently and much faster than traditional methods.

However, experts have warned against cooking meat on the bone.

Air fryers are built with a cooking chamber, a heating element and a fan.

The heating element generates the heat and the fan circulates the hot air around the cooking chamber, making sure the hot air reaches all sides of the food, cooking it thoroughly and evenly.

But this isn’t the same for bone-in meat, such as whole chickens.

While many people are now opting to cook their roast chicken in the air fryer, it really should be returned to the oven.

According to Southern Living, large bone-in meats are better off being roasted in a traditional way as it can help cook even than in an air fryer.

Air fryers aren’t designed to cook large cuts of meat, so they should always be cooked in the oven.

Better Homes & Gardens wrote: “The air fryer won’t evenly cook the meat, and you may be left with overcooked or raw portions when it looks like it’s done.”

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t cook smaller portions of meat in the air fryer.

The likes of chicken wings, fried chicken, and bacon are all suitable to be put in the air fryer.

When it comes to cooking steak, you’ll be limited in size once away.

Bone-in cuts tend to have more flavour and are harder to overcook, but most likely won’t fit in the air fryer basket.

You’re also limited by temperature. According to All Recipes, most air fryers reach a maximum temperature of around 230℃, which is a relatively low temperature to cook steak at.
