Terry Bollea, widely known by his ring name Hulk Hogan, the twelve‑time professional wrestling world champion and two‑time WWE Hall‑of‑Fame inductee, has died at the age of 71. He died from cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida, as emergency personnel were dispatched Thursday morning, TMZ reports.
Hogan rose to fame with his then-WWF debut in 1979. His charisma, towering physique, signature handlebar mustache, and iconic “Hulkamania” persona helped propel the company into a global powerhouse. At WrestleMania III, his body‑slam of Andre the Giant became one of the most legendary moments in professional wrestling history.
His name became synonymous with the company, and he was featured in several WWF games, including WWF Wrestlemania, WWF Wrestlemania Challenge, and King of the Ring for the Nintendo and Super Nintendo systems. When he jumped over to competitor WCW in the mid-90s, he was also heavily featured in their video games for the N64 and PlayStation–most notably WCW/NWO Revenge.
Beyond the ring, Hogan branched into mainstream entertainment, appearing in films like Rocky III and TV shows including Hogan Knows Best. In April 2025, he co‑founded the Real American Freestyle wrestling promotion alongside Eric Bischoff, which was slated to launch its inaugural event in Cleveland later this summer.
His career wasn’t without controversy. Despite being the poster boy for the company and one of its Mount Rushmore of stars, WWE scrubbed Hogan’s existence for several years. Hogan was caught in a 2015 scandal involving racist remarks and later allegations of infidelity.
He is survived by his wife, Sky, as well as his children from a previous marriage to his ex-wife. From his early days in WWE to his later role shaping new wrestling talent, his influence on the industry is immeasurable.
