We can always have more games involving mechs. Who doesn’t love hoping into a big robot and shooting some lasers? All the better if it’s with friends. Synduality Echo of Ada offers as much in the form of a extraction shooter, taking traits from Titanfall and blending them with a healthy dose of anime. The long-awaited mech game has just hit early access, but it would’ve been hoping for a stronger start to life.
Taking place in the far off year of 2222, the Earth of Synduality Echo of Ada has been made inhospitable by toxic rainfall. Mankind now lives underground, using high-tech suits to roam around and fight for resources. As a result, it’s a multiplayer game about doing just that against enemies and other players.
The suits are called Cradlecoffins, and you’re assisted by an AI known as Magus. Together they make sure you’re able to traverse what’s now a wasteland full of mutations. Missions in the action game offer supplies and equipment that can be used to upgrade the Cradlecoffin – a necessity when facing other pilots and their inventory.
As the trailer shows, some of the areas you’ll explore are vast, and the creatures you find within are just as daunting. Magus is an absolute necessity when it comes to figuring out what to do next, and they act as last line of defense, since they have specific abilities that can be deployed in a pinch.
Right now, user reviews on Steam are unfortunately mixed, with players citing issues with griefing and the Battle Pass. Developer Game Studio Inc hasn’t addressed these yet, but there’s plenty of time for it to do so. Just play with caution if you are choosing to dive in.
It’s an anime game in presentation, but one that people still waiting for Titanfall 3 may want to check out. I’m keeping the dream alive as much as anyone, but our chances remain slim, so anything that gets even close to that feeling is something worth exploring.
