Washing machines are brilliant for washing clothes, bedding and other items, however, putting your pillow in the washing machine can be a gamble.
Some pillows can be washed in the machine but others can disintegrate or get so damaged that they become unusable.
Rather than replacing a yellow-stained or mucky pillow with a new one, homeowners can wash them at home using a cheap and quick method that takes just a few hours, according to one Mrs Hinch fan.
The easy hack was discovered after Maureen Salisbury posted on the Facebook group, ‘Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips’ asking for help to remove “yellow stains on pillows”.
She asked the cleaning community: “I have seen somewhere a remedy for yellow stains on pillows. Can anyone help?”
The post was quickly inundated with responses but one affordable hack came out on top – Napisan.
Margaret Audrey wrote: “I put mine in a sink with hot water and nappy soak. Leave them for a couple of hours and they are white as snow and stains [are] gone.
“Rinse in the sink and then once the water is all drained, put them in the spin cycle. Don’t wash them ever in the washing machine, I learnt, it wrecks them. If blood stains, spray with Vanish 24 hours before soaking.”
Julie Larkin agreed and simply commented on the post “Napisan”.
Napisan is a non-biological stain remover that kills germs to leave garments hygienically clean.
The product claims to “remove germs and stains from your wash even at low temperatures” by releasing “active oxygen to kill germs and remove stains”.
The popular item can be found in multiple supermarkets including Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s for around £5.
Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included using Elbow Grease, soda crystals and hydrogen peroxide.
Anne Gogarty Lyddy replied: “A light spray of Elbow Grease, wait 10 minutes, then wash as usual. Job done!”
Brenda Shaw commented: “Soda crystals.”
Siobhan O’Connell said: “Hydrogen peroxide water mix with baking soda and soak. Or, soak overnight in white vinegar.”
