Mum shares ‘brilliant’ product to brighten dull whites in ‘10 minutes’

When washed incorrectly, white clothing can turn dingy and grey in the washing machine.

This is likely to happen if they are washed with black laundry items or if they are not washed on a hot setting.

To help keep them looking pristine, Mrs Hinch fans have shared how they keep their clothes looking brand new.

Posting on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Sue Tucker wrote: “I’m about to go on holiday so I thought I’d use a 60-degree wash on my whites on a white setting.

“Quite a few things were looking a bit grey. I used washing powder for whites and a washing pod.

“Even on a 60-degree wash, nothing came out whiter. I don’t know what to try next. Any ideas, please? My bras that were bought as white are really grey now.”

The post attracted more than 20 comments from fellow group members recommending a variety of products, including Napisan.

Fiona Clarke commented: “Napisan and don’t use washing pods with white items, stick to white powder not coloured pods.”

Sharon Stoddart added: “Soak and wash whites in Napisan, it’s brilliant.”

Alison Lister also recommended Napisan claiming she uses it for all her children’s white clothing and it helps to “banish” the grey tinge.

Vicky Robinson wrote: “Soak for a while in Napisan then do a normal wash, it doesn’t need to be a hot one.”

Gabrielle O’Donaughey wrote: “Helps to whiten clothes in as little as 10 minutes.”

Napisan can be purchased online or from most local supermarkets including Asda for around £4.50 a box.

It can be added with detergent into the drawer or can be used to soak clothes for effective stain removal.

What’s more, the product can kill 99.9 percent of bacteria in laundry, removing stains on as little as 30 degrees. Baking soda and white vinegar can also help to brighten clothing if you have that to hand.

According to Deyan Dimitrov, CEO of Laundryheap, adding half a cup of both ingredients into your washing machine’s compartment before a cycle can “brighten and clean” clothing.

The powerful duo can also tackle any odours and is great for socks and gym clothing.
