Diablo 4 Season of Witchcraft is fast approaching. There’s understandably a lot of hype for all the new witchcraft powers, the freaky Headrotten enemies, and all the usual balance changes that come with a new update, but Season of Witchcraft also delivers what might just be Diablo 4’s best quality of life feature yet, and it’s one that feels long overdue for the ARPG. The Armory is a new tool that lets you save builds and switch back to them at any time, and a few more details about exactly how it’ll work have been shared by Blizzard.
Spending time tinkering with your build and swapping gear in and out in Diablo 4 can be the most rewarding experience if you come up with a brilliant new loadout. Or it can be a frustrating waste of time if it turns out to be worse, and you then have to revert back to whatever it was you were using before. The Armory aims to soften that blow somewhat and give you loads of flexibility while exploring Sanctuary. After being tested on the PTR and initially revealed earlier this week, a new dev stream has put a bit more meat on the bones of this awesome new feature in the RPG.
As systems designer Aislyn Hall puts it, the Armory is a “godsend.” It’ll have five slots per character, giving you plenty of freedom to experiment with different items and skills, and you can rename each build to whatever you please. Everything build-related is snapshotted when you save a loadout to the Armory, including things like Paragon points.
The Armory is accessed from any major city in Sanctuary, the Tree of Whispers (where you’ll spend a lot of time this season), the Citadel, and the Training Area, which is a great boon for those that want to experiment or learn new skills.
Thankfully, all this convenience doesn’t also mean a drain on your gold – it’ll cost you absolutely nothing to swap builds through the Armory, so you can keep switching around as many times as you please.
Hall says that following its time in the PTR, Blizzard has made some UI adjustments to make button clarity clearer for players. It also says improvements for loadout deletion are in the works and will arrive in the 2.1.1 patch after the Season of Witchcraft update. Speaking of future improvements, Hall makes it clear that while this is an essential and super helpful feature, the Armory is being added in a “serviceable” state due to the high demand from players but has so much more room to grow.
