There aren’t many videogame studios with the RPG pedigree of Obsidian Entertainment. In the last twenty years, the team has given us Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout New Vegas, The Outer Worlds, and Alpha Protocol to name but a few. Next up from Obsidian is Avowed, a Skyrim-style fantasy adventure filled with branching narratives, vibrant landscapes, and a huge open world to explore, but we’ve still got a few months to wait before we can play it. So if you want to explore some of the studio’s older games before trying its newest, there’s no better place to start than this Steam sale, and I heartily recommend you try Pillars of Eternity for that fantasy flavor.
If you’re one of the many who’s fallen in love with Baldur’s Gate 3 recently, it’s worth giving Pillars of Eternity a shot. This Obsidian RPG is so clearly inspired by the old Baldur’s Gate games, among many others, that giving it a try after BG3 is easy. Pillars of Eternity even uses the same isometric viewpoint as Baldur’s Gate, so you’ll feel right at home.
Obisian even dropped a surprise Pillars of Eternity update earlier this year, which acts as a comprehensive set of fixes to many issues players have had over the years with audio, combat, quests, and visuals.
Our Pillars of Eternity review from 2015 even gives Obsidian’s classic the much-coveted 10/10 ranking, as Fraser Brown calls it a “sprawling, wordy, isometric RPG.” So if you want to learn even more about the game before diving in on Steam, give those words a read.
Pillars of Eternity is 75% off on Steam right now, so expect to pay $7.49 / £5.74 until Monday November 18. There are also plenty more Obsidian Entertainment games on sale right now, as well. You can find the game on Steam here.
Otherwise, we’ve also got all the best fantasy games and open-world games to try today.
