One of the leading Indian car manufacturers, Maruti Suzuki, is set to expand its SUV range with the introduction of what is reportedly set to be called the ‘Maruti Victoris.’

The much-awaited launch of Maruti Suzuki’s brand new SUV is here. The leading Indian car manufacturers will be introducing their midsize SUV to Indian automobile enthusiasts on Wednesday, September 3. The high-end vehicle will also be given its formal name at the launch ceremony.
Until now, Maruti Suzuki’s midsize SUV has been called the ‘Maruti Escudo’. But a catchy official name could act as a means to expand its popularity and reach. According to reports, the vehicle could be called the Maruti Victoris. Based on the Grand Vitara, the Victoris is set to be sold via the Arena dealership network. In the hierarchy of Maruti Suzuki’s product portfolio, Victoris will be placed above the popular Brezza and below the Grand Vitara.
What To Expect From Maruti Victoris
The Maruti Victoris will be sold in a slightly more affordable price range than the Grand Vitara. It is expected to rival other popular auto options such as Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun and Toyota Hyryder in the mid-size segment.
When launched on September 3, the new Maruti SUV is expected to share its powertrain with the Grand Vitara that is currently available with 103bhp, 1.5L K15C petrol, 116bhp, 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol hybrid and 88bhp, CNG options. The transmissions of the car will also be borrowed from the Vitara and boast of the same 5-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic and an e-CVT (hybrid only). It will be the brand’s third hybrid SUV and the second midsize offering that could challenge the Creta.
What Else Is Special About Maruti Victoris
The Victoris will be Maruti Suzuki’s first-ever SUV to feature a factory-fitted underbody CNG tank, which will ensure the car’s engine, transmission, suspension and brakes are perfectly integrated. It will be set up in a way to also make sure owners enjoy an expanded boot space, unlike the usual Maruti CNG cars, where the tank fits into the boot area.
The base variant of the SUV is expected to be more expensive than the Brezza but also slightly cheaper than the Grand Vitara. While the petrol-manual variants could be priced around Rs 10-10.50 lakhs, the top-end variants with hybrid powertrains might be sold at and above Rs 19 lakhs (ex-showroom).
