Another day means yet another surprise Steam release has rocketed up the charts. Today it’s the Mecha Break demo, as players are getting a taste for the PvP and PvE robotic combat game. It’s already topping stalwarts like GTA 5, and has even managed to squeeze past the consistent player numbers of Marvel Rivals too. As of writing it’s the fourth-biggest game on Steam, with quite the climb needed to reach third place.
Developed by Amazing Seasun Games, Mecha Break is a multiplayer game scheduled for release later this year. Right now, however, there’s a free demo that anyone can get involved in on Steam. You can fly around in 3v3 or 6v6 fights, and fully customize your mecha with paint jobs, decals, and an array of different patterns. It’s pure chaotic adrenaline, and it’s already exploding on Valve’s platform.
Since the demo dropped, players have been preloading Mecha Break in time for the launch on Sunday February 23. Now that it’s here, the game has almost instantly shot up to a staggering high of over 300,000 players. In the time it’s taken me to gather that information I’m almost certain the concurrent player number will have gone up again, though. For reference, a playtest for the game in August 2024 peaked at just over 50,000 concurrents.
This means Mecha Break has, in the space of just a few hours, flown past most games on Steam. It already has more players than Rust, GTA 5, Marvel Rivals, and Apex Legends. It is still behind stalwarts like PUBG, Counter-Strike 2, and Dota 2, however. The last of those is sitting at around 700,000 players, so it might take a while for Mecha Break to catch up.
It’s not all instant success for Amazing Seasun Games and Mecha Break, however, as the Steam reviews tell a different story. The demo page currently sits at 18%, or ‘overwhelmingly negative,’ from around 1,700 reviews. Many of these reviews are in Chinese, which suggests that a large number of players flocking to the game are logging in from China. Almost all of the reviews highlight the same issue: server disconnects.
Talk of connectivity and operational issues are rampant in the Steam reviews. The Mecha Break demo has only been live for a few hours so far, but the instantly skyrocketing playercount could suggest that Amazing Seasun Games’ servers were quickly overloaded by demand.
The developer has also already put Mecha Break into server-wide maintenance, meaning no one has been able to play the game for a short time. The team doesn’t provide a reason for the immediate and brief shutdown, and it’s already back up, but my educated guess is that the studio is aiming to fix any server problems.

Since the demo’s launch, Amazing Seasun Games has apologized for the server issues and offered compensation: “As our Open Beta went live earlier today, we were overwhelmed by your enthusiasm, witnessing over 300K concurrent players within hours. This posed a challenge to our server capacity and resulted in negative reviews from players. We apologize for any inconvenience and have addressed the server issues.
“To compensate your time, we are issuing [Ultimate Maintenance Box *15] in three batches (5 per batch), delivered via in-game mail.”
