May 28, 2024: Details regarding Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 release date added, as well as all upcoming features for the current season.
When is the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 release date? The sandstorm has brought with it monster trucks, dirt bikes, and all sorts of Mad Max-inspired punks to terrorize the southern part of the island. The new battle pass brings with it the Brotherhood of Steel from Fallout, as well as an upcoming Magneto skin that will be unlockable mid-season.
Some significant changes have already happened to Fortnite in the new season, including a reworked Fortnite map and various new Fortnite weapons. We already know the theme and at least one collaboration thanks to some teases in-game and via various dataminers who have been busy unraveling the strings. As we venture into the battle royale game’s latest season, let’s see what’s been confirmed, including the all-important next Fortnite season date and if this affects Fortnite Festival and Lego Fortnite in any way.
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 release date
The Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 release date is Friday, August 16, 2024. We can be sure of this as it coincides with the end of the current season, which began at the end of May.
Based on previous Fortnite season start dates, we assume the new season will be released on the same day the previous one ends. This is roughly three months later and is followed usually with minimal downtime. Typically, only end-of-chapter seasons and unforeseen events cause significant downtime, but make sure to check our Fortnite server status guide if you’re having trouble getting in. We anticipate the game will be down between 1am PDT / 4am EDT / 9am BST and will likely return online a few hours later.
As soon as the Fortnite servers go offline, Epic Games will roll out the next update that players can download, ready for Chapter 5 Season 4’s launch. Previous updates have been roughly 95GB, so depending on your download speed, this may take a while. As with the beginning of every season, there will be a queue to get in at first while the servers deal with a massive number of people booting up the game at once.
Upcoming Fortnite collaborations
The only upcoming collaboration that hasn’t been shown in a trailer for Chapter 5 Season 3 will be a Lethal Company collab. ShiinaBR posted a datamine leak showing new emotes coming to the shop.
ShiinaBR also notes that the following collab deals are coming with skins being made available for various different modes:
- May 28 – Eminem & Hamburger Day
- May 30 – Nike Goddess

You’ll also get a free Chewbacca Lego skin if you buy the battle pass. As this event isn’t due to end until Sunday, July 21, 2024, there will be no change during the switch to the new battle royale season. However, a Destiny 2 collab coming very soon will also include Lego Fortnite skin variants. ShiinaBR posted some screenshots of three characters: Ikora, Elsie Bray, and Zalava.
Upcoming Fortnite Festival features
Previous Fortnite Festival seasons have centered around popular music artists such as The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, and, most recently, Billie Eilish. Since the Festival Season 3 pass, which started on Monday, April 22, 2024, is available until Thursday, June 13, 2024, the current lineup will remain the same on the new Fortnite battle royale season release day.
Upcoming Fortnite seasons
Looking beyond Chapter 5 Season 3, ShiinaBR has also posted about the upcoming seasons in the next year. This includes a Marvel-themed season, a return to the original island in Fortnite OG 2, and the as-of-yet-unrevealed Fortnite Chapter 6. This summary post comes from a datamine from earlier this year.
A swinging mechanic is one feature coming in Chapter 6, derived from the game files of the Season 3 update. ShiinaBR posted an image of Lara Croft swinging on some bars to highlight this.
